Learning Journey

  • Months 1-3: Foundational Knowledge in Specialist Support

Learners begin with an introduction to the role of a Specialist Teaching Assistant, covering safeguarding, child and adolescent development, and the fundamentals of inclusive education. This phase emphasises understanding diverse educational needs and the importance of fostering a supportive learning environment.

  • Months 4-6: Supporting Inclusive Education and SEND

In this phase, learners focus on inclusive education strategies and supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). They will learn techniques for adapting learning materials, using assistive technologies, and promoting inclusive practices within the classroom.

  • Months 10-12: Behaviour Management and Emotional Support

Learners develop skills in behaviour management, using positive reinforcement, and creating a safe, nurturing environment for emotional and social development. Topics include understanding and addressing behavioural challenges and supporting students' well-being.

  • Months 13-15: Literacy and Numeracy Support Techniques

During this phase, learners focus on supporting literacy and numeracy development. They gain practical experience with strategies to help students develop essential skills, adapting approaches for individual learning needs, and assessing progress.

  • Months 16-18: Educational Technology Integration and Specialisation

This phase emphasises integrating digital tools to enhance learning experiences. Learners will explore technology-based interventions and assistive tools to support students with diverse needs. Additionally, they will begin focusing on their chosen area of specialisation—SEND, Curriculum, or Social Well-being—by applying targeted strategies and resources to deepen their expertise.

  • Months 19-21: Professional Practice, Reflective Development, and Specialisation

In this phase, learners continue to build on professionalism, ethics, and reflective practice. They refine their skills in their chosen specialization, whether SEND, Curriculum, or Social Well-being, allowing them to become proficient in supporting students with specific needs and collaborating effectively with the school community to make a meaningful impact.

  • Months 22-24: End-Point Assessment Preparation and Completion
