Learning Journey

  • Induction and Foundation (Months 1-3)

In the first three months, apprentices will establish a solid foundation in the theories, principles, and models of education and training. This module will introduce the core concepts and theoretical frameworks that underpin effective teaching and learning. Simultaneously, apprentices will begin to explore the fundamentals of teaching, learning, and assessment, gaining practical insights into planning and delivering educational sessions.

  • Core Skills Development (Months 4-6)

During months four to six, the focus will shift to wider professional practice and development in education and training. Apprentices will delve into the roles and responsibilities of educators, understanding the broader professional context, and how to engage in continuous professional development. This phase also includes in-depth learning on developing teaching, learning, and assessment strategies, enabling apprentices to refine their instructional techniques and assessment practices.

  • Advanced Knowledge and Skills (Months 7-9)

From the seventh to ninth months, apprentices will enhance their understanding of pedagogy and action research. They will study various pedagogical approaches, learning how to apply these strategies to create effective and engaging learning environments. Additionally, apprentices will be introduced to action research methodologies, empowering them to conduct research projects aimed at improving their teaching practices and student outcomes.

  • Specialised Skills and Safeguarding (Month 10–12)

As apprentices progress to months ten to twelve, they will focus on critical topics related to online safety, the Prevent duty, and understanding safeguarding. These modules will provide essential knowledge on how to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment, both online and offline. Apprentices will learn to identify and address potential risks to students, implement safeguarding policies, and understand their roles and responsibilities in preventing radicalisation and extremism.

  • Applied Teaching Practice and Professional Development (Month 13-15)

In the final phase of on-programme learning, from months thirteen to fifteen, apprentices will concentrate on applying their knowledge in real teaching scenarios. This period will involve hands-on teaching practice, where apprentices will plan, deliver, and assess learning sessions under the supervision of experienced educators. They will also engage in professional development activities, refining their skills and preparing for the End Point Assessment (EPA).

  • End Point Assessment (EPA) Months 16–18

The last three months have been dedicated to the End Point Assessment (EPA). Apprentices will compile and finalise their portfolios, prepare for knowledge tests, and participate in professional discussions and observations. Regular review sessions with employers and training providers will provide essential support and feedback, ensuring apprentices are fully prepared for the EPA. By the end of the apprenticeship, learners will be equipped to excel as learning and skills teachers, making significant contributions to their educational institutions.
