Learning Journey

  • Months 1–3: Foundation and Leadership Introduction

During the first three months, learners will establish foundational leadership principles in the Leadership module, focusing on leading teams effectively within early-year settings. At the same time, they will concentrate on Supporting Wellbeing and Resilience, developing strategies to promote the well-being and resilience of both children and staff.

  • Months 4–6: Core Skills Development

In this phase, learners will work on Facilitating Learning, developing skills to create engaging learning environments that support children's educational and developmental needs. They will also focus on Supporting Children’s Daily Needs and Development, ensuring they understand how to meet children's daily needs within a nurturing environment.

  • Months 7–9: Advanced Leadership and Operational Skills

Learners will delve into Operational Leadership, focusing on the practical aspects of managing resources, staff, and day-to-day operations. Simultaneously, they will cover Health and Safety, learning to implement and oversee policies that ensure a safe environment for all.

  • Months 10–12: Observations and Planning

This period will focus on Observations, Assessments and Planning, where learners will develop expertise in conducting observations and assessments, and use this data to plan and implement effective learning strategies.

  • Months 13–15: Compliance and Stakeholder Engagement

Learners will study Compliance and Legislation Implementation, focusing on applying legal and regulatory frameworks in early years practice. In parallel, they will enhance their skills in Stakeholder Engagement and Partner Relationships, learning to build strong relationships with parents, community members, and external agencies.

  • Months 16–18: Inclusivity and Community Focus

During these months, learners will lead initiatives through Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Leadership, promoting inclusive practices within their settings. They will also develop skills in Community Reports, creating and presenting reports that highlight their setting's impact on the community.

  • Months 19–21: Final Preparations and Review

As the on-programme learning concludes, learners will refine their strategic planning and leadership skills in Leadership (Advanced), while also preparing for the End-Point Assessment (EPA) through End-Point Assessment Preparation, focussing on reviewing all modules, assembling portfolios, and practicing for the observation, presentation, and professional discussion.

  • Months 22–24: End-Point Assessment (EPA)

The final three months are dedicated to the End-Point Assessment (EPA), which includes an Observation in the workplace, a Presentation on a chosen topic that showcases the learner's knowledge and skills, and a Professional Discussion with an assessor to reflect on their learning journey and demonstrate competence as an Early Years Lead Practitioner.
