Learning Journey

  • Induction and Foundation (Month 1-3)

In the first three months, apprentices will lay the groundwork for their mentoring careers. They will delve into the core responsibilities of a mentor, understanding the ethical standards and safeguarding practices necessary for the role. Additionally, they will learn how to provide accurate information, advice, and guidance, ensuring they can effectively support their mentees from the start. These modules establish a strong ethical foundation and essential mentoring skills.

  • Core Skills Development (Month 4-6)

During months four to six, apprentices will enhance their ability to motivate and delegate. They will explore strategies for inspiring their mentees and effectively delegating tasks, which are crucial for fostering a productive mentoring relationship. This phase also covers the ethical standards in mentoring, ensuring apprentices uphold the highest standards in their practice. These skills are fundamental for motivating mentees and managing mentoring relationships effectively.

  • Advanced Knowledge and Skills (Month 7-9)

In the seventh to ninth months, apprentices will advance their knowledge with modules on equality, diversity, and inclusion, and develop teaching and learning practices. They will learn to create inclusive mentoring environments and support diverse learners effectively. Additionally, they will delve into safeguarding, equipping them with the skills to protect and support their mentees. These modules ensure that apprentices can manage and enhance mentoring activities while promoting a safe and inclusive environment.

  • Specialised Skills and EPA Preparation (Month 10–12)

As apprentices approach the final months of their on-programme learning, they will focus on managing personal and professional development. This module encourages continual growth and reflective practice, enabling apprentices to develop their mentoring skills further. Significant emphasis will be placed on preparing for the End Point Assessment (EPA), including activities focused on finalising portfolios, preparing for knowledge tests, and honing interview and presentation skills. This phase is critical for ensuring apprentices are ready for the EPA.

  • End Point Assessment (EPA) - Month 13-15

The final three months are dedicated to the End Point Assessment (EPA). Apprentices will complete a knowledge test, portfolio-based interviews, and a project presentation. Regular review sessions with employers and training providers will offer essential support and feedback, ensuring apprentices are fully prepared. By the end of the apprenticeship, learners will be well-equipped to excel as mentors, making significant contributions to their organisations. This structured approach guarantees robust skill development and comprehensive EPA preparation.
