Learning Journey

  • Months 1-3: Foundations of Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability

In the first phase, apprentices will establish a strong foundation in corporate responsibility, sustainability principles, and ethical governance. They will explore the evolution of sustainability in business, global frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the role of corporate governance in driving responsible practices. Additionally, apprentices will develop an understanding of business ethics, compliance requirements, and the financial and reputational impact of sustainability initiatives.

  • Months 4-6: Strategic Planning & Embedding Sustainability

During this stage, apprentices will learn how to develop, implement, and measure sustainability strategies that align with business objectives. They will explore risk assessment, stakeholder expectations, and long-term sustainability roadmaps, ensuring they can design initiatives that balance profitability with positive environmental and social impact. Practical applications will include conducting materiality assessments, setting sustainability objectives, and integrating sustainability into corporate decision-making.

  • Months 7-9: Project Management for CR&S Initiatives

Apprentices will focus on applying project management methodologies to CR&S initiatives. They will gain experience in budgeting, resource planning, and risk mitigation for sustainability projects, ensuring they understand how to deliver measurable impact. Training will cover lifecycle planning for sustainability programmes, setting performance indicators, and evaluating long-term project effectiveness. Apprentices will also begin applying their learning to real-world projects, developing the ability to oversee and drive CR&S activities within an organisation.

  • Months 10-12: Stakeholder Engagement & Ethical Communication

This phase will focus on how to build, maintain, and influence relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, customers, investors, regulators, and communities. Apprentices will develop skills in stakeholder mapping, negotiation, and transparent communication to build trust and collaboration. They will also explore how businesses communicate sustainability efforts effectively, learning to create impact reports, sustainability statements, and ethical marketing campaigns that align with industry best practices.

  • Months 13-15: Data Collection, Reporting & Compliance

Apprentices will gain hands-on experience in data-driven decision-making for sustainability, learning to collect, analyse, and report key sustainability metrics. This phase will introduce international reporting frameworks such as GRI, SASB, and TCFD, ensuring apprentices can navigate regulatory requirements. They will also explore compliance obligations related to environmental and social governance (ESG), corporate disclosures, and ethical auditing practices. By the end of this phase, apprentices will be able to support their organisation in meeting legal and voluntary sustainability standards.

  • Months 16-18: Financial Planning & Business Case Development for CR&S

This stage will focus on developing financial acumen to support sustainability initiatives. Apprentices will learn how to justify CR&S investments, assess return on investment (ROI), and build compelling business cases for sustainability projects. They will explore funding opportunities, grants, and green financing, ensuring they understand the financial mechanisms available to drive sustainable innovation. By applying cost-benefit analysis and strategic budget planning, apprentices will gain the skills needed to secure buy-in from senior leadership for CR&S initiatives.

  • Months 19-21: Leadership & Personal Effectiveness in Sustainability

Apprentices will refine their leadership and professional development skills, learning how to lead sustainability teams, drive organisational change, and influence corporate culture. This phase will focus on personal effectiveness, career progression, and professional networking, ensuring apprentices are prepared to take on senior roles in sustainability and corporate responsibility. Practical applications will include change management techniques, leadership case studies, and engagement with industry professionals.

  • Months 22-24: End-Point Assessment (EPA) Preparation & Final Assessments

Apprentices will complete their Work-Based Project & Presentation, demonstrating how they applied sustainability principles in a real-world setting. They will also take part in a Professional Discussion underpinned by their Portfolio of Evidence, showcasing their problem-solving skills, stakeholder engagement, and strategic impact. Upon completion, they will be recognised as skilled Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Practitioners, ready to lead sustainable change within organisations.
