Foundations of Children and Family Practice
Months 1–4
Develop a strong understanding of child development, safeguarding, and the factors that influence the well-being of children and young people. You will explore how practitioners recognise risks, understand legal responsibilities, and support the safety of children and families.
This stage also introduces the professional role of Children, Young People and Families Practitioners and the importance of working ethically within support services.
Supporting Children and Young People
Months 5–8
Build the practical skills needed to support children and young people experiencing challenges. You will explore trauma-informed approaches, emotional well-being, and strategies used to support individuals affected by harm, neglect, or difficult life circumstances.
During this stage you will also develop communication skills that help build trust with children, young people, and families.
Assessment, Planning and Intervention
Months 9–12
Develop the ability to assess needs, manage risks, and plan effective interventions that improve outcomes for children and families. You will learn how practitioners gather information, assess situations, and develop support plans that respond to individual circumstances.
This stage also focuses on working collaboratively with professionals across education, health, and social care services.
Professional Practice and Completion
Months 13–18
Apply your knowledge in real practice situations while strengthening professional judgment and reflective practice. You will explore strategies that support resilience, promote positive behavior, and improve outcomes for children and young people.
During this stage you will also prepare for your End Point Assessment by completing your portfolio and demonstrating your competence in supporting children, young people, and families.
