Months 1-3: Foundation in Sports Turf Management

This phase includes an in-depth study of health and safety practices specific to turf operations, ensuring learners are well-versed in creating a safe working environment and complying with relevant regulations.

From months four to six, learners will delve into the science of turfgrass, gaining knowledge about different species and their growth patterns. This period includes advanced techniques for mowing and aeration, which are crucial for maintaining high-quality playing surfaces. Learners will develop a deeper understanding of the biological and environmental factors affecting turf health.

During months seven to nine, the focus shifts to soil health and water management. Learners will study soil nutrition and health, learning how to maintain optimal soil conditions for turf growth. This phase also covers the maintenance and conservation of irrigation systems, emphasising efficient water use and sustainability practices.

Months 10–12: Integrated Pest and Disease Management
In months ten to twelve, learners will address the challenges of pest and disease management. This period includes advanced methods for controlling pests and weeds, as well as strategies for preventing and treating turf diseases. Learners will be equipped with integrated pest management techniques to maintain healthy and resilient turf surfaces.

From months thirteen to fifteen, learners will concentrate on facility and project management. They will learn how to plan and manage turf projects, including budgeting and resource allocation. This phase also covers the maintenance of sports turf equipment, ensuring learners can keep their tools and machinery in optimal working condition.

Months 16-18: Professional Growth and EPA Preparation
The final phase, from months sixteen to eighteen, is dedicated to professional growth and EPA preparation. Learners will engage in leadership training, developing skills to supervise and mentor staff effectively. This period also includes comprehensive preparation for the End-Point Assessment (EPA), with mock assessments and review sessions to ensure learners are fully prepared to demonstrate their competencies.
